Inspired by the chalk cliffs at Hunstanton on the North Norfolk coast, where coastal erosion results in a shifting, changing landscape.  
Chalk filtrates and absorbs, it cracks and erodes, it seeps and sheds.  It  is solid, and it crumbles to dust.  I ground lumps of chalk to powder and added it to the layers of oil paint and cold wax for this painting.  I wanted to give a feel of the tension between the apparent solidity of the cliff and its sense of movement and flow.
