"Changing Places X"
15x15cm, unframed.
One of a series of small works created during the Fluid Earth artist in residency at Groundwork Gallery, exploring coastal erosion. These small artworks all contain collected materials, soils, sand, chalk, mud, wood, seaweed, found materials. The pieces were created in the context of displacement of land, exploring the inherent processes of separation, re-forming and integration of land, particles and elements, after the disruption of erosion, and whether or how identities change, merge, transform or remain the same during this process.
This piece incorporates mud, sand, wood and seaweed collected from Brancaster Staithe. I was delighted with the crack and shrinkage appearing as the materials dried, because it replicates the character of the inlet at the beach.
